Mechanical upgrade and interior renovation of a 2,000 SF research lab suite on the fifth floor of the Henry Hinds Laboratory for Geophysical Sciences building.
design solutions
The renovation included laboratory areas designed for mass spectrometry research activities, a Class 100 (ISO 5) acid cleanroom for independent research, and support spaces within the Department of Geophysical Sciences. Elements of layout, casework, equipment, and mechanical systems focus on contamination control throughout the lab spaces and address the corrosive nature of the research in the acid cleanroom. New heavy-duty, gasketed suspended ceilings and lighting also address the cleanroom and mass spectrometry lab requirements. An independent air handler unit was installed on the roof along with all new supply and exhaust ductwork to meet the strict air temperature and humidity requirements of the lab, along with electrical and data connections for flexibility and adaptability of equipment throughout the lab.
